Low-Temperature Soda Firing Service – December Session

→ Unlimited pieces for firing service, but total volume must fit within each kiln shelf dimensions: 40cm(W) × 35cm(L) × 15cm(H)
→ Limited studio space: Maximum 2 people per kiln shelf for glazing
(Glazing appointment dates will be notified separately after registration)

在這種燒製方式中，當窯溫升至所需溫度時，我們會向窯內噴入蘇打水。隨著溫度超過1100℃，蘇打中的鈉開始與黏土中的二氧化矽反應，這一過程促使釉面的形成。蘇打燒製展現了多樣的效果，例如橘皮紋理、閃耀、光滑、碳印等等。土的成分影響著最終效果，高矽鋁比的土（如瓷土）會呈現出光滑的表面，而低矽鋁比的土（如陶土）則會顯示出較平滑的外觀。含鐵量高的土壤（如深色或黑色土）因鐵與鈉的反應而呈現霧面效果。要製作橘皮紋理，可以在土中添加矽砂等物質，這些變化使得製作過程極富趣味和多樣性。不同的釉藥也能產生無數效果。通過實驗和調配配方，可以找到理想的顏色和效果。相較於傳統的鹽燒，蘇打燒能呈現更豐富、明亮的色彩。

窯位有限，名額滿即止。作品數量不限，但總尺寸應在40cm(W)*35cm(L)*15cm(H)以內。如超出或未達尺寸要求，可能需要額外費用或不予燒製。如果對尺寸有疑問，歡迎隨時與工作室人員討論。工作室將提供各種顏色和材質的釉藥。學員需在約定時間自行上釉。此活動僅開放具有上釉和陶藝經驗的同學。

Soda firing is a signature kiln technique at Cloud Forest Ceramic studio. In this firing process, once the kiln reaches the required temperature, we introduce soda water（Sodium Bicarbonate） into the kiln.

At temperatures exceeding 1100°C, Sodium reacts with silica in the clay, resulting in captivating glaze surfaces. Our pieces boast a diverse array of textures and finishes including Orange Peel, Flashing, Glossy, and Carbon Trapped. The clay’s composition plays a pivotal role—porcelains, rich in silica, achieve a lustrous sheen, whereas stonewares exhibit a warm, flashing surface due to a lower silica to alumina ratio. Dark or black clay bodies, rich in iron, resist sodium, resulting in a matte finish.Each glaze produces unique effects. Continuous experimentation with recipes and firing schedules is key to discovering your preferred outcomes. Unlike salt firing, which tends towards duller tones, soda firing yields vibrant, varied colors. Incorporating silica sand into your clay can create the distinctive Orange Peel texture you desire.

There’s no limit to the number of pieces within our provided shelf dimensions of 40cm (W) x 35cm (L) x 15cm (H).  Works exceeding or not meeting these specifications may incur additional fees or be ineligible for firing. For any questions regarding dimensions, feel free to discuss with our studio staff.

The soda firing process will take over 24 hours. The studio will provide various glazes in different colors and textures. Students are required to glaze their pieces during the designated times. This event is only open to students with prior glazing and ceramics experience. If students do not have bisqued pieces, they may purchase bisqueware from the studio for glazing.

1. 一版最多提供兩人上釉，名額有限，請提供轉賬後五碼以確定名額保留，保障雙方之權益。

2. 每人可攜帶指定高度平方公分以內的素燒或完全乾燥的土坯作品，如超過體積恕不入窯。
3. 低溫蘇打燒燒成溫度在1200-1230度左右，高溫蘇打燒溫度在1280-1300度左右，燒製的結果不可預知，若燒製過程發生損壞，恕不負責。
4. 如您沒有自製器皿可燒，請來信或在臉書/ＩＧ洽詢，可於現場選購由工作室所提供的器皿 (費用依尺寸造形而有所不同)。
5. 請於表單勾選指定時間前來上釉，因空間有限，避免上釉學生工作不便，僅提供報名同學前來上釉，上釉時間恕不接受攜伴參觀。

1. Upon submitting the application, please provide the last 5 digits of your account.  We will confirm the number of participants and prepare the materials needed.
2. Each participant can bring their own works not larger than the shelf dimensions we provide, and the works can be bisque pots or completed dried greenwares.
3. The peak firing temperature of Low Temp Soda firing is between1200-1230 degree Celsius. High Temp Soda firing is between 1280-1300  degree Celsius. The result of Soda firing is unpredictable. Damage/not intended results may occur. The studio does not take responsibility of any damage caused during the firing process.
4. If you don’t have your own pottery pieces to fire, please contact us via email or Facebook/Instagram. You can purchase pottery pieces provided by the studio on-site (pricing varies depending on size and form).
5. Please select your dates in the form to glaze your works at the studio before the firings. Upon the glazing day, only 2 ppl limited to come for glazing each shelf. The space will only opened to students who sign up for firing, as we only have limited room to work. However, you are welcome to bring your friends on the day of unloading kiln.
